Half-Empty Squints

The bearish shamble of the elderly schnauzer   dribbly pee at the edge of the grass
The ragged pajamas, the face towards the cell phone, a rubbery squeak when cheek hits seat,
inked napkins with diagrams, the mother/daughter try-to-plans,
clankity frying plans, chapped and frazzled hands  broken glass diadems

and the jangle of sleigh bells tied to the kitchen door, like santa's always begging -
and the furnace panting out blowdryer heat
the snappish expression, the wounding confession
eyes askance   don't want this dance
want sleep, want waking, wanton ego, want to let go....
